Doshia Mae Knight-Mitchell dedicated wife, mother of two, sister, aunt, educator and friend of many - passed away on February 10, 2023 at the age of 80 in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Doshia was born to John and Lula Mae Knight in Oviedo, FL. Doshia married the love of her life Anthony Mitchell Sr. whom she leaves behind, but married 52 years. Doshia and Anthony welcomed two sons together, Anthony Jr, in 1973 and Austin Ray in 1979.
Through the years, Doshia enjoyed spreading the word of GOD at a variety of churches and programs through song with her sisters and individually. She embraced her matriarchal role by always offering her straight-forward, God-founded guidance to all who asked and even to those who didn't. Her continued love of God was shared with every individual she encountered and without reservation. Doshia's presence was always infectious and desired, and her smile could light up a room always making a person's day.
She was a social justice advocate that participated in the efforts that helped desegregate the Town House Restaurant in the city of Oviedo, FL.
After 30 years of serving as a teacher's aide, Doshia retired from the Seminole County Public Schools leaving a lasting impact on her students and school administrators at Lawton Elementary. Doshia remained very active in community affairs and civic engagement as a member of Oviedo Citizens in Action and the Johnson Hill/Washington Heights Community Outreach. One of her happiest moments as a member centered around helping the group secure a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial at the Round Lake Park facility in the city of Oviedo.
Doshia was preceded in death by her parents John Sr. and Lula, as well as her brother, Luther—sisters--Anna, Bertha, Betty, Fannie and Estelle. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Mitchell Sr. , their children Anthony Mitchell Jr. and Austin Ray Mitchell, Anthony Jr's wife Tasha R Mitchell, and grandsons, Kendal and Micah-Alexander whom reside in the Washington, D.C. area. Doshia's surviving siblings are Shirley Knight-Morris, Leon Wesley Knight, Charles Knight, and John A. Knight Jr. in addition, there are a total of 50-plus nieces, nephews, and greats.
Memorial services will be held at Grant Chapel A.M.E Church (387 East Franklin St, Oviedo, FL 32765). There will be a viewing held on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00am - 10:45am followed by Doshia's Celebration of Life at 11:00am.
