Obituary

James Curtis Dykes Sr., affectionately known as Curtis, was born January 14, 1949, in Pensacola, Florida, and peacefully received his heavenly wings on April 20, 2026. He was a devoted man of faith, having accepted Christ at an early age, and a distinguished scholar—graduating Valedictorian of Wedgewood High School in 1967 and earning a bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University.

Curtis enjoyed a successful career in sales, beginning with Prudential Insurance in Boston and later continuing in Orlando, Florida, including work with cruise agencies, telemarketing companies, and Disney World. He was a master chess player and a lifelong lover of basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elnora and Willie "Bay" Dykes Jr.; his grandparents, Rosa May "Gertrude" and Willie Ross; and siblings Johnny Ray "Teedy" Dykes, Darlene Harris, and Kenny Dykes.

Curtis leaves to cherish his memory his children, Talia Kafi of Houston, Texas, and James Curtis Dykes II (DeShauna) of Missouri City, Texas; siblings Theresa Simpson, Lilly Dykes, Lorenzo (Darlene) Dykes, Henry Dykes, and Edward Dykes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends, including his lifelong friend, Leon Knight. His legacy of love, strength, and integrity will be forever remembered.

Memorial will be held on May 9, 2026 at Gail and Wynn's Mortuary 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM
