James Henry LondonJames Henry London was born on September 9, 1928 in Leesburg, Florida (Lake County) to the late Mrs. Reather Kemp Masongale. He was the oldest of 6 children and was mostly raised up in Oviedo, Florida where he stayed with his grandmother, Maggie Hawes Kemp, aka "Big Momma". If you knew him at all, you did not address him as James. He was affectionally known to everyone as Sugar Boy. In 1959, Sugar Boy met Susie Keith in Oviedo and after being together for 9 years, they joined in marriage on March 6, 1968. Sugar Boy and his loving wife, Mother Susie London, remained together in Oviedo, Florida until his passing. Sugar Boy was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 and served for two years in Camp Polk, LA as a Heavy Vehicle Driver. He was relieved from this active military service with his first honorable discharge in 1952. He was later called from inactive duty in 1953 and then served another four and half years in the United States Army stationed in Germany working with heavy artillery. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Occupation Medal (German), and the Good Conduct Medal. He was relieved from this active military service tour with a second honorable discharge in 1955. After leaving the Army, Sugar Boy worked as a supervisor for the Nidy Sports Construction Company of Winter Park, Florida with Mr. Robert Nidy and son, Lynn Nidy building recreational and athletic sports courts until he retired at the age of 62. Also, Sugar Boy was always an avid fisherman and gardener. Sugar Boy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on a Thursday evening after a Bible Study and was baptized the following Sunday, July 6, 1997 by Pastor Victor Blair, Senior Pastor of Fountain Head Baptist Church of Oviedo, Florida. Sugar Boy, along with his wife, were members of Fountain Head Baptist. S ugar Boy departed this life on Thursday, June 18, 2020. Preceding him in death is sister Maggie Lee Slater (Darius) and brother Lawrence London (Evelyn). Sugar Boy leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife of 52 years, Mother Susie London; brother William J. Masongale (Patricia) of Orlando, Florida; sister Reather Masongale (Orlando, Florida), and sister Olah Lee Morgan (Jessie) of Orlando, Florida; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and church family. |
