Ruth was born June 6, 1938. She is the eighth of twelve children, to the late Bertie & Lizzie Murray, in St. Stephens, South Carolina.

Ruth married November 14, 1964, to James A. Cheek; a member and veteran of the United States Air Force.  As a military wife, there were many times her husband had to leave for duty.  She was devoted to supporting her husband's career and raising their four children—their oldest Terri, twins James and Jennifer, and youngest Rene.   Ruth's family meant the world to her.

She began working at Walt Disney World in 1981, where she touched the lives of many co-workers and guest by always sharing a little of herself with each person she encountered.  Ruth retired from Disney after 25 years of making magic.

Ruth was active in her community and contributed time to various fundraisers.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, her Lord and Savior called her home.

Ruth is survived by her husband James A. Cheek, daughter Pateria Cox (Glynn), son James L. Cheek (Amy), daughters Jennifer Cheek and Rene Cheek, four grand children Sherise Foster, Kendall Foster, Joshua Foster and Shayla Cheek, as well as three great grand children Kaliyah, Noah & Roman Thomas.

A lifetime of love and memories will forever be in the hearts of her family and friends.
