Violet M. Sawyer, affectionally known as "Maxine" or "Mackey" as the first child born to the late Samuel Jerome and Mamie L. Watson Sawyer on September 8, 1943. As a child she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Key West, Fl, where she became a willing church worker serving as an Usher, Sunday school teacher and favorite and most passionate singing in the choir. In her early 20's she accepted Christ and walked with Him for the rest of her life.
She received her education at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and Douglas High School where she graduated in 1959. Maxine loved to sing, she was a member of her church and high school choir. She was a member of the Cord Island Singers and the Key West Oratorical Society, She frequently performed at church programs and weddings.
Maxine was employed as a nurse's aide at Monroe general hospital, them as an Insurance Agent for Afro American Insurance Co. in 1972. Maxine moved with her children to Orlando, Fl. where she rededicated her life to Christ and became a member of the 910 Church of God. There she served as a Sunday School teacher and a Choir member for many years. She was employed at Walt Disney World for over 20 years and worked foe Share of Central Florida. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings, Dorothea Butler, Rose Robinson and Magdelene Sawyers
On February 13, 2023, she walked out of this life to her eternal life with the Lord. She leaves behind 3 loving children who were at her bedside when she gained her wings, Welbridge (Martresha) Allen, Alton (Rena) Allen, and Audra (Martin) Singletary. 11 grandchildren, 17 great grand children, 2 sisters, Norma Sawyer and Iva Sawyer, 1/ 1 Aunt Julia Rowe, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
