Walter Herbert Gibson, affectionately known as "Butch" was born on June 27, 1960 to the late Annette Griswold and James Gibson in Detroit, Michigan.

He attended Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1979. Walter served in the Air Force with the rank of Sergeant and the title of Command and Control Specialist. "In recognition of his exemplary service he earned several citations" including Air Force Overseas Service Short Tour Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon; Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He served his last 5 months in Florida until his discharge in 1986. Most recently he worked for The Double Tree Hotel for 14 years in Security. While there, he assumed a leadership role and took great pride in his work.

When his brother Edward Merrill Griswold passed in 1992 Walter and his sisters Deborah and Cawetha lost touch only to be reunited on Facebook in 2015.

On May 27, 2016 he married his wife of four years, Georgia Harmond. He married Isola Yvonne Bartley in 1991 and there were no children from that union.

Walter was diagnosed with colon cancer in February of 2018. He fought the good fight until his death on June 8, 2020 just days before his 60th birhday.
